]]>On one of my regular trips to the local craft store a few weeks ago, I saw the Halloween and fall decor out in full stock. And then I saw it. Christmas trees. Ribbon, and they were unpacking more. It's JULY! I never understood why the big holiday push so early, until DeAndre started his photography gig full time. I mean, I just learned that some photogs booked all their holiday sessions in May. May, people! Oh, to be one of those uber-organized families....
I digress.
So, last year we released our Winter themed sessions in August.

]]>Grant Images Celebrates One-Year Anniversary with Gallery Exhibit
BROOKFIELD, WI: Grant Images, a Brookfield-based portrait and event photography business, is excited to celebrate their first year of business. To honor the event, Grant Images will be hosting a gallery exhibit and ribbon cutting at The Corners of Brookfield Community Room on Thursday, October 4th from 3-7 pm.
“Growing Grant Images over this past year has been just an incredible experience. Photography is more than a business for us - it is our life. We could not have asked for better partnerships, clients, and opportunities,” says owner and photographer DeAndre Grant. “I am looking forward to celebrating Grant Image’s first year by showcasing our artwork in the gallery exhibit. So many great moments have been captured and we are excited to share it with the community.”
Photography from Grant Images will be on display for the event. Festivities will include a raffle with prizes, networking opportunities and a ribbon cutting with the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. Light refreshments provided. The event is free and open to the public.
The location is a favorite of Grant Images. Grant Images partners regularly with The Corners of Brookfield, and other community businesses (Marcus Theaters, iHeartRadio), to photograph their events.
Grant Images is a veteran and black-owned business run by Wisconsin natives DeAndre and Amber Grant. Their photography offerings span events, photo booth, and family portraiture (maternity, newborn, milestones). They are committed to supporting the community and have worked with organizations like Make A Wish, Walker’s Point Center of the Arts and Bublr Bikes.

And- wanted to show you how we used our special Floral Hoop that we custom made for our sessions. We had a vision for this year's Mother's Day. Floral, beautiful, fun! We came across this image, it was so gorgeous, we felt inspired! This is NOT our image, by the way!
When planning out our dates, I had the idea to ask some of our fellow small business owners to collaborate.
We were excited to partner with Kids in Motion and Children's Orchard for our sessions. It was great to work with Brandae (owner of Kids in Motion) and Liz (Manager of Children's Orchard).
We have been having the boy's birthday parties at Kids in Motions for years! Its such a fun place to take the kids to burn energy, especially when the weather isn't the greatest (hello-Wisconsin!). Children's Orchard has beautiful second hand clothing for children so of course we love them, too!
As you may have noticed in our inspiration photo, there is a HUGE floral piece that is just so unique! We weren't quite sure we would be able to replicate it but decided to give it a try!
We (ok I) looked at Pinterest -see my board here- for hours. It was so amazing to see how other photographers to have made them, and used them! Apparently, it is made out of a Fire Wood Ring Holder! Who would have ever guessed??
In my research, I found a lot of different tutorials. See this great resource on how to make one here.
We ordered the ring, and DeAndre put it together so quickly! With a little help from our 2 little boys, I'm sure!
Of course, then I had to go to Hobby Lobby and drop a small fortune on the many garlands and flowers to fill it out. But it was so worth it. What do you think?
Ok, so that *may* not look like much. A lot of time, love, and creativity went into it! Here is the finished Floral Hoop project, with some of our moms. It was so fun capturing these moments!
It was so beautiful to see these moms interacting with their children. Motherhood is a journey like no other. I think we were able to capture the essence of our inspiration photo. I am pleased with how they turned out and can't wait to use our hoop again!!

]]>When Mary Kay Director Stephanie Genz reached out to invite us to her annual Mommy & Me event, we KNEW we had to say yes! Stephanie is an ambitious entrepreneur and a leader! She actually came out on location to some of our photo shoot sessions to give beautiful make overs to our clients before their portrait session!

She created this beautiful flier and her team of Mary Kay Consultants were inviting their clients for the event!
We reached out to our good friends at The Crimson Club for some raffle prizes!! And they came through!! WOW- wine glasses, gift cards, so many prizes. Thank you Jennifer!! If you have not been to The Crimson Club, you have to go! Great music, amazing drinks, and good food.
The Fairytale Birthday Company were so generous- they gave us princess wands for all the littles who came with their mothers!! They loved them!!
The day of, we up the studio while Stephanie and her team set up the goodie table, and make up stations.
I almost forgot to mention the AMAZING Bundt Cakes! I had to pick up some bundtinis from Nothing Bundt Cakes -sooooo delicious!! You must try them!
The moms and children were so beautiful, and we had a wonderful time photographing them! Here are some of our favorites!!

Obviously you share clothes, and go shopping together, and then you bicker and make-up afterwards (right?). You would always have a shoulder to cry on or a friend to laugh with. A built in support system.
Needless to say, I was looking forward to this session not only because I would see one of my favorites again, but also meet some of the sisters I have not yet worked with. We sent ideas back and forth, and of course, they had colors picked out- purple and black! LOVE. We used Pinterest (see our board here) for inspiration and to share ideas and had a lot of fun planning the session out! I felt so inspired by the Braxton's portrait session here. Isn't this portrait so beautiful?
The day finally arrived. What do you do when you have 5 sassy, personality-filled, beautiful sisters in your studio for a portrait session?? You have lots fun- make up artist on hand thanks to Mary Kay, chocolate (of course!), music, and maybe a little moscato.... maybe. And don't forget the shoes. Each sister had a pair of heels that were too pretty to walk in.
So DeAndre started photographing, just getting warmed up we did some head shots:
It did not take long for these sisters to really be comfortable and just enjoy the portrait session. SO. MUCH. FUN!!

We always have a great time in our sessions, getting to know our families, laughing, having fun. But this family has such a fun energy- they are so funny, always joking, and we always end the session like we are having a blast with family we have known (and actually like!) for years. You can tell they have love for each other!
How did we do?? I think it's safe to say we all had a great time! These sisters now have beautiful portraits to last a lifetime. We love being family photographers, and would love to be yours!
We have also been hearing from our clients how much they would LOVE an outdoor family session. They are so much fun. They allow for nature to be the back drop and your family to be the focus. It allows for spontaneity and lots of movement- which is important for kiddos!
We went out last week to look at the Botanical Gardens. We actually had our wedding photos there and we remembered it was so lush and green.
It must've been awhile, because MY GOODNESS, we didn't realize how big it was, and how many different landscapes there were.
It didn't take long to confirm that The Botanical Gardens would be an amazing place to hold our family sessions! We toured and saw so many beautiful areas that we fell in love with!

I immediately started working on props. They said- "Selena-Theme props". Hmmmmm, I know Selena, I know photo booth, I know props. This HAD to be ESPECIAL! I couldn't just come in with any old props. I looked high and low for props. Selena- ok- glamorous, bedazzled, beautiful, fashionable- all those things!! I had challenges finding exactly what I needed. Lucky for me, I know some wonderful artists who helped me execute my vision!!!
Do you like my hat?? It was pretty easy to make! I also bought some FLORES, of course!!
Thanks so much to Phil Johnson at Designs By Phil, he created a CUSTOM SELENA SIGN!!! I asked quite a few of my talented friends (and don't get me wrong- they are quite talented)- but no one could come up with a way to create the Selena logo that I could use! Phil literally did it in minutes. Maybe even seconds. AMAZING!
Red Glitter Lipstick would be messy, but creative designer Kellie was able to whip them up in no time flat! We were going to do T-Shirts as well, but I decided I wanted to dress like Selena (at least a little bit). Next year I will have a shirt though!!! I should start designing that soon......
The BIG DAY arrived and it was raining and gloomy and we pulled up to Marcus South Shore Cinema, wet and cold. We opened the doors to a beautifully decorated lobby!!! Purple and Silver and colors everywhere!!
And this cake tho.........
There was cake for all guests, which was DELICIOUS. Wonder where it was from..... If you know, let me know!! Yum.
We set up our booth and were so happy to work with Marcus as they were such gracious hosts!

Selena Quintanilla-Perez. When you hear the name, it can evoke so many different emotions: joy, happiness, Latino pride, hope, sadness, devastation, grief..... I think the one thing we can all agree on is that Selena had music that resonated with so many. One of my favorite things about Selena was energy on stage and her performance that was so full of life. She made you want to get up and bailar!!! I love her music, and although I am sad that my children will never know her as a person, but a legend, I know that her music will be played in our house. They will know her beautiful voice, her upbeat songs, and how much fun it is to dance to her music. We had so much fun, got to meet so many wonderful Selena fans, beautiful families and just community in general supporting this great event and the donating to the many causes.
We can't wait for next year!!!

When I first got the message from Melissa that she and her husband Roy wanted a family session, I was so excited because her daughter in law, Jessica, referred her. I met Jesse over 10 years ago working with her lovely mother Maria, kept in touch on social media and watched her grow up into a professional young woman, and attended her college graduation and shortly after, her wedding. Jesse is one of the sweetest, kindest people you will ever meet. And one of the MOST beautiful brides I have ever seen. Of course I would LOVE to do portraits for her mother-in-law!
Melissa and I connected immediately on the vision she had for her portraits. Casual, candid, yet clean and classy. She was so organized!! I knew that these portraits had to be on point. Melissa is the heart of the family, it was so sweet how she was very careful in scheduling the session so that not only her children, but her daughter-in-law could be there. And then there's Aces. Aces is A-Dor-A-BLE!!! A big, furry, cuddly guy, who protects his family, especially his big sister, Lisa.
The day finally arrived, and I was so touched by the family pictures she brought to display on the mantel. Grandma would be still a part of the portraits, in a beautiful frame in the studio set up. Portraits of the kids and of course, the wedding pictures, flanked the mantel as well. Melissa even brought a comfy pillow for Aces!
As we started out the session, Adam and Jessie were naturals in front of the camera! They were so cute! Did I mention that Melissa is gorgeous??? She really is- her eyes and smile light up a room!! We spent the next hour or so laughing, joking, posing, and just feeling the love this family had for each other.
And that's what it's really about. At the end of the day, you have family, you have the love and memories shared. It was our absolute pleasure and honor to capture this precious moment in time for Melissa and her family.
